Most amazing haircut I have ever had! I scheduled my appointment with Lo. She took the time to listen to what I was looking for and we collaborated on what would look/work the best for me with my busy lifestyle. The education was spot on so I could replicate the look I was going for. The cut was stunning, the shampoo was relaxing, and the styling was amazing! Lo and Abby did a perfect job and spending an hour with them was wonderful. Thank you so much for the fantastic experience. We had to cancel one service due to working OT then on the day of, one of their folks had to cancel our couple pedi. They did call to let us know but we’re not able to accommodate the second person. So we ended up canceling all together. Looking forward to a future visit. We love spa day.

After spending $400+ for balayage and a haircut, I was hoping to have gotten what I asked for. Instead, I got the exact opposite even after my stylist claimed to have known what I wanted during the consultation. Gave it a few days to see how it settled and still hated it, so emailed the location. Got one response that was vague and not helpful and when I emailed back, they ghosted me. Never going to the Grandville location again.

Honestly this place is beautiful and very nice, but when I walked in I knew I wasn’t in the right place and I was too poor for it. Check in was weird, like you check in and they tell you to go upstairs, so I go upstairs and one woman was working on someone’s toes and I didn’t know what to do so I looked around awkwardly until she asked me what I needed, and I told her I was there for a pedicure and she told me to have a seat in the waiting area across the room. So I did and as my sister and I sat, something was said between her and another employee and they were laughing so I felt really stupid. The one woman who did my pedi was very nice, but I’m not gonna lie it was awkward af for me because she’d ask me questions and smile and make this face that made me feel like she was really into doing my feet if you pick up what I’m laying down. If I were you I’d just go somewhere else, it cost me $68 for this pedi that was like a step up from the basic, when I could get that same thing at my local nail store and be charged $35 and not have the awkward moments I had at this salon. My toes turned out nice, just like they do at my local salon. I only went here because I had a gift card.

They were able to get me in on the same day for a consult and corrective color immediately following. The stylist seemed very shy and unsure of herself, which made me a bit wary, but I appreciated the quick service and she did indeed fix my hair!

I would try and find a local salon that has a bit more personality than a chain like Design One. I used to use this salon quite a bit in the past, but over the past few years this salon seems to have given up. I moved out to the Grandville area, and decided to stick with what I know and see if I can find a stylist at Design One. I arrived for my very first appointment after work and I was very disappointed. I met my stylist, and she immediately passed me off to someone else to get shampooed, she then came back to start my cut, passed me off to someone else to have my hair blow dried and then I was passed along to someone else to style my hair, I was passed around between 4 different girls as if I was some kind of inconvenience, wasn’t even sure who I was supposed to tip.

I was a customer of the Design 1 in Portage, MI and had great experiences there. About a year ago I moved to Grand Rapids and decided to stay loyal to Design 1 and scheduled a haircut. My first experience with Keaton at the Plainfield store was actually great and I rescheduled. Keaton then canceled my future appointment with very short notice and so I decided to schedule with the Grandville location since it was closer to home. I went in for a trim before my fiancé’s cousins wedding and my experience was okay. I rescheduled with the stylist from the Grandville store. She had broken her foot and again my future appointment was canceled. I tried to stick with this same stylist and rescheduled with her though again my future appointment was canceled. I then took the next available slot they had with a new stylist. I scheduled another appointment with her which AGAIN got canceled because she had gotten fired. First off I thought it was unprofessional sharing that information with me as a customer and also at this point 100% of my future appointments with Design 1 were getting canceled with short notice. Just this past week I had scheduled for Friday at 12:45 PM and even have text confirmation of this. I walk into the Grandville store today Friday at 12:35PM to check in and they say that my appointment is tomorrow. I can’t make the appointment tomorrow and show them the message. The girl working the front desk was so rude and super unhelpful. She never got off her chair to even check to see if maybe I could get squeezed in as I was only getting a trim nor did she try to assist in rescheduling with a time that worked. Her attitude was horrible and I felt like an inconvenience nor did I feel like she empathized at all with my situation. Justly I was upset. This was absolutely the worst customer service experience I have ever had and it’s such a disappointment when I used to have consistently great experiences at the Portage, MI location enough to want to stay a loyal customer. I will no longer be a customer of Design 1 and would not recommend this business either.

Earlier this year I came in to get a massage, blowout, manicure and facial and I had such a wonderful experience! And then today I came in and had my eyebrows waxed and tinted. Once again Jill did an amazing job! I love her and will always recommend her! She even did a head massage while we waited for the tint to set!
