LOVEEEED my experience here at Design 1 in Gaines Township. In the past I have had some terrifying hair experiences at another salon in the area so I was nervous to go back to a salon for hair services. Over the course of 5 years I’d box dye my hair myself, all dark colors. I went to Design 1 for a consultation with Kass. I wanted to go be as close to my natural hair color as possible with some definition, but I also wanted to be realistic and not ruin my hair either. Kass and the staff were great from start to finish. Kass did an amazing job listening to my vision and giving me an action plan that best fit to achieve the results. She made me feel comfortable during the whole process and kept an open line of communication on whats being done with my hair as it went. She did such a great job I am still so surprised that my hair turned out as good as it did. Thank you Kass for giving me hair that I love!!

I had a full foil color with a cut. The color was great and I was happy when I left. When I got home I noticed my ends were cut completely uneven. I wanted blended layers and she was going to do a v cut in the back. It did not blend, the corners weren’t cut and I had odd pieces leftover at the bottom. While I appreciate the customer service and them making me another appointment so the stylist can correct, I will be going back uneasy. I have VERY long hair typically and it was already cut shorter than I like it to be and I am worried that I will have to have it corrected again with more length taken off

Got a mani/pedi here before my friends wedding. Very impressed with the ladies that did our nails as they were very accommodating and very helpful with helping me pick out the perfect color and accent nail sparkle. Salon is very clean!

My nail tech Yuka does amazing work. Would highly recommend her. Salon is cute and clean and the employees are always courteous. I’ve also been waxed by Hannah and she did a great job as well!

I really appreciate the general aesthetic and layout of this salon, it makes you feel as though you’re in a high class establishment (without the high class prices). My husband and I both got quick trims for a reasonable price and we both left happy. I was excited to here that they offer massage services here as well—I will definitely be back soon!

Being a long time weekly client I am shocked at how they handle a stylist leaving. They clearly do not know how to handle it. Every week I go in for a blowout…. Every week. I also get my hair dyed there. This week was my appointment for both services. I get a call on Monday that my stylist is “sick” and they need to move me to Friday, I hear through the grapevine that it is because my stylist left… lying to the client strike one. Then Friday (day of appointment) I receive a voicemail, my stylist has left the salon I need to reschedule. This is the day before a long holiday weekend. Now I’m left going into the long holiday weekend with grey roots and no blow out. Thanks for nothing Design One, you just lost a weekly client that has spent a LOT OF MONEY WITH YOU for life!!!
