I went for the “Curly Perm” and a deep plum semi-perm color but after being there a whole 6 hours. I didn’t even have a bend in my hair. To top that, she literally “cut” my hair saying she was trimming the ends that didn’t process. Again, The little old lady across from me kept tell me to look, she said, she’s cutting your hair but I didn’t believe her. Trimming and Chopping someone’s hair off are 2 different things. Also, I asked for a deep plum color (dark 99J purple) and the color that was in my hair was an Auburn color. All my length of my hair is gone and I have no curls no waves NOTHING. She tells me to “go get some braids” Until my hair is completely natural. WOW!!!! $100 deposit $35 for semi-color. I walk outside and as soon as my hair starts to dry I look like a puff ball. So, disgusted!!!!!

If I could give this salon 10 stars I would! I have been seeing Mrs. V for several years now and she is the ONLY PERSON I trust to do my hair. She is professional, clean, honest, and treats you like family from the moment you walk into her salon. Since the pandemic, she has made it a priority to keep everyone safe so she requires masks, performs temperature checks upon arrival , provides hand sanitizer, and spaces everyone throughout the salon to ensure safety which I truly appreciate. It feels like a family reunion every time I enter into her salon because even though there’s people there I never met before, Mrs. V makes everyone feel welcome. I have strong, healthy relaxed hair all because of Mrs. V’s gentle care with my hair. She’s hands down one of the best stylist around so if you are questioning on whether to check her out or not, BOOK THE APPOINTMENT AND GO! YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED! Thank you so much Mrs. V for all you are continuing to do; not just with my hair care but also in my life! This review is long overdue! I can’t praise Ms. V and her staff enough. The salon feel for Dawns of Essence is warm, friendly, and inviting. Several months ago, I called Ms. V to bring in my daughter for a virgin relaxer, she was very sweet. When we got there, she made my daughter feel comfortable about her choice to relax her natural hair, helped her choose a cute pixie style, and had my teenager (we know they’re hard to please) feeling lovely and confident when she left. Ms. V. was even able to squeeze me in (I’m natural too) for a wash and trim while I was sitting there, and although her shop was full, we were out of there in no time. She genuinely cares about hair growth and maintenance. She informed me about the different products I could use to help with my post-baby shedding and schooled my daughter about how to take care of her relaxer and how to wrap her hair.

Just had the most amazing hair experience ever at this salon! Ms.V is the all star boss lady! Her warm an inviting energy makes you feel at home as she listens to your hair drama! She fixed my hair up in a way I never thought was possible! I had some beat up over processed damaged hair she revitalized it! I had relaxer color cut style and conditioning treatment! I was desperate. Tried the natural thing for a few years but couldn’t stand it another second. I called Ms.V and she got me in right away. I was a little afraid because my hair is super short and I didn’t know what she would be able to do with it. From the moment I walked in she made me feel comfortable, and assured me that my hair was safe in her hands. She started with a professional assessment of my hair and scalp, and made recommendations from there. I was pleasantly surprised with the gorgeous pixie cut that she did. I’m a busy professional, so anything that requires too much detailed styling was not an option. The cut is so good that it looks fantastic in a simple wrap or flat-ironed. I am very well pleased with my hair and my new stylist.

It was the Saturday after Thanksgiving and while I wasn’t expecting to get into a salon on the same day, I was hoping to find a Sunday appointment. I usually just do my hair at home, so I don’t have a regular stylist that I see anymore. After seeing reviews and photos of Ms. V’s work at Dawns of Essence …and noting that she took Sunday appointments, I decided to reach out to her. I fully expected her to let me know that she was fully booked for Sunday, but instead she let me know that she could get me scheduled for 12:30pm on Sunday. The morning of my appointment, she texted me to ask me to come in at 1:30pm. No problem, since she was graciously making room for me at the last minute. I arrived at 1:30pm and Ms. V met me at the door to take my temperature and spray sanitizer on my hands. She then asked me to sit in a certain seat in the waiting area. I didn’t have a problem with any of this – actually, I appreciated her commitment to keeping a clean and safe environment during this pandemic. Speaking of safety precautions, Ms. V also spaced her clients out during services, repeated cleaned sinks and work areas and wore a mask and face shield (clients were also required to wear masks at all times). Ms. V was wrapping up a long service on another client when I arrived, had another client in the chair that she was finishing and another client and I were in the waiting area – she was extremely busy, so I had to wait, but again, I didn’t mind since she fit me into her schedule at the last minute. As Ms. V rotated between me and her other clients, she began to express to us all that she was experiencing a lot of pain from a prior medical procedure (non-COVID related). The pain became very excruciating for her, so she apologized for taking several quick breaks. Despite her pain, Ms. V continued to service her clients and me and the quality of her work with superb. She colored and cut my hair with such precision – I LOVE IT. On my way out, Ms. V apologized for not feeling well, for my appointment taking so long to complete and for making this type of first impression. None of us can help getting ill, so I don’t fault her. She was even kind enough to loan me her umbrella to get to my car in the rain and let me drive up to the door to drop it off so my hair wouldn’t get wet – what a kind gesture when you’re not feeling well.
