Critical: Professionalism, Quality, ValueI recently moved to the area and expected great things after reading so many positive reviews of this salon, but am frankly unimpressed with the quality of haircut I received. Not sure if it’s because I was a new client, but a very junior-level stylist was assigned to me named Brooke. After a speedy initial consultation, I was led to a washing station where she immediately started talking about personal issues she was going through, including relationship drama. This went on for the duration of my haircut. I sympathized with her situation and tried to lend an ear, but it caught me off guard as I had only just met her and was looking to relax for a little bit after a hectic workday. I don’t think she paid enough attention to the actual cutting she was doing, and her technique was pretty basic in my view. My hairstyle might be considered uncomplicated, but it always took my previous stylist at least an hour from start to finish, during which time she would meticulously trim each section of hair so it was exactly level, as well as use thinning shears after my blowout to take out extra volume and incorporate “finishing” scissor cuts to ensure a sleek, polished look. (Instead of simply combing back the hair, cutting straight across the bottom, and calling it good, which is what I experienced at Cosmera.) Brooke also rubbed in a handful of thick, sticky mousse before blowing my hair dry, without asking first whether I wanted any product, which I didn’t. The blowout was half-heartedly done and the mousse, which I assume was to give some lift, ended up weighing my hair down. As a final step, to trim my bangs, she pulled an open pair of scissors through my hair strands, which made a harsh ripping sound. I don’t know if her scissors were in need of sharpening, but regardless, why not cut into the hair instead of dragging a blade through it? Point-cutting is a very common technique and is far more gentle on follicles. All in all, I felt like my haircut was rushed and clumsy, resulting in a choppy finish. The stylist was nice, but wasn’t focused on the task at hand and perhaps needs more training. I am a Master Barber of 34 years, so, “we” in in the business are especially picky to every detail. I called and spoke with the owner who recommended Leslie to me. What a gem I have found! Hallelujah! Leslie listened to my current hair crisis, which lived in a top knot on my head daily. I had no idea what I really wanted as I had had all the styles over the years and wanted a fresh look. I also want to transition to embrace the silver streaming throughout my hair. Together we came up with a plan of how to accomplish this starting with a fresh cut. I did tell her what worked for me and what didn’t and the result is amazing! Leslie really took her time with me and we discussed my cut all the way through. I love that in a Stylist! I immediately felt comfortable with her . Leslie is kind, easy to talk to , really listens and she knows her craft. I am so happy to have found her!The Salon has taken extra precautions to safely care for their clients in the midst of this pandemic. All the Stylists have face shields and have put up safety divisions between the stations while maintaining a comfortable atmosphere.I would highly recommend Leslie at Cosmera ! I am a super happy camper! This coming from a girl that has had the same trusted Stylist for 20 years ! What a gem! Thank you Leslie! I just moved to FL a month ago and my search began for a new stylist. Heavy sigh.. I am a Master Barber of 34 years, so, “we” in in the business are especially picky to every detail.
