I went to get a powder polish manicure and pedicure. After my pedicure, polish removal and trim, I was asked to move for a customer that had just arrived. I obliged. Instead of completing my service, the lady left me to help another regular customer that came in. I waited patiently for her to return to me. 6 more people came in, the entire staff focused on all of them. I was the only black customer there and began to feel slighted. I had been there for over 2 hours already and when I finally asked how much longer I would have to wait as I was there before everyone that they seemed to have put their focus on (white customers) I was told that all of the other customers had appointments. If in fact every customer that came in after I did, did have an appointment, it still was wrong to stop my service midway to focus on multiple other customers. I told the gentleman that I was already late to pick up my daughter, he suggested I go pick her up (in Collierville I might add) and return. That was enough for me. If you are a person of color, this is not the shop for you. I say this without emotion. I enjoyed the three times that I visited their salon prior to today. How I was overlooked today was hurtful and shows the underlying racism that haunts Memphis.
