I walked into Cal’s Barber & Beauty Salon in Brownwood, and was able to be accommodated for my first haircut since the start of the pandemic I was given a person who honestly confessed that cutting a man’s hair that I had grown into a ponytail was not something he felt comfortable doing. He suggested that I use the hair cutter in the chair next to him. That person Michelle Justice took over and she has been cutting my hair since. Cal’s is well run and appointments are easy to arrange. The place is always busy but they treat their customers with respect and courtesy. Prices are reasonable and customers seem pleased with their experience.

$20 for haircut plus $5 tip is steep jump from $12 a few years ago. There’s shop’s just outside the village’s for $8 or $9. Been a customer for over 7 years but now will go elsewhere Haircut

I received services from Ramona. I scheduled the services two days ahead of my appointment. I was in desperate need of a trim while I am here visiting family. I am frustrated with the quality of services. It’s not that the cut came out awful, but the experience was lacking. I was in the salon chair for less than 20 minutes. A $70 service for someone with hair as long and thick as mine, should’ve taken at least 45 mins – an hour. On the day of, I called an hour ahead of my appointment to confirm if Ramona’s schedule was running on time. Ramona herself confirmed she is running right on time. I walked in the door at 12:04 for my 12:15 appointment, and let them know that I was there early but totally fine with waiting. I made it clear I was in no rush. Well apparently Ramona was. Ramona let me know that the person who was scheduled ahead of me, still hadn’t shown and was running late. Ramona asked me to wait a few minutes to see if she shows. I was fine waiting, but I found it really strange that she was willing to take in someone who was late to their appointment, just 10 minutes before my own. Ramona ended up taking me back to her chair at about 12:10 for my 12:15 appointment. All good, right? nope. She rushed through the entire service. She gave me an extremely blunt chop, and didn’t take the time to blend the ends. The blow out was poor quality, so when she was complete, I asked her to run a straightener through it as well to smooth it out. She didn’t even wait for the straightener to heat up, and spend maybe 30-60 second running it through my thick hair. Horrible. If I were styling someones hair, I would’ve never let them walk out of my salon looking like that. She did at least get the job done and chop off my dead ends, but honestly Helen Keller could’ve done the same. Just terrible customer service. The facility itself was nice, but I do not recommend Ramona one bit.

Best haircut I’ve ever had! I get sincere compliments about my hair and have been asked where I got my hair cut. Ramona works at Cal’s and cuts my hair. She is quick, skilled, and produces consistent good-results every time. She put body and lift into my fine, flat hair. Thank you Ramona! Thank you Cal’s!

Two stars because the receptionist fit me in on a Saturday and she was nice. Still, just an awful experience overall. I had previously had a fabulous almost-military haircut from Jason, but he’s no longer there. I got the most awful cut from (can’t remember her name but she smelled strongly of cigarettes). Told her what I wanted when I sat down. She cut it like she thought looked better. I said it needs to be shorter, like I said use the number 2 blade on the clipper and she got snippy and irritated, shaved the sides real short, left the top really long, and dumped me out of the chair looking like someone from Who-ville (with the tuft on top). Luckily, the girls at Great Clips were able to fix it for me. I’ll just go there first next time.
