Social Profile:

At Bodywise Massage we believe it is each person’s right to reach their full potential. Life can be profoundly bountiful when our bodies, minds, and souls are nourished. Challenge, pain, struggle, and imbalance are also a part of life. Through massage, somatics, self-care, and functional movement much of that can be alleviated for a full expression of who we truly are! We also believe that it is our responsibility to care for those in need; that when we have abundance, we are enticed to share it for a purpose greater than ourselves. Lastly, we believe that technology is a part of our evolution. Using tools to gain personal insights is one of the greatest frontiers we have crossed in terms of understanding our inner workings.

Accupressure
Acupressure uses precise finger placement and pressure over specific points along the body. These points follow specific channels, known as meridians – the same channels used in acupuncture. According to Asian medical philosophy, activation of these points with pressure (or needles) can improve blood flow, release tension, and enhance or unblock life-energy, known in China as “qi”. This release allows energy to flow more freely through the meridians, promoting relaxation, healing and the restoration of proper function.
Bodywise@Home
Have our practitioner come to you in the comfort and safety of your own home. We have strict safety protocols and ways to support a healthy experience.
Craniosacral Massage
CST is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system – comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep Tissue focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue to release the chronic patterns of tension in specific areas through slow strokes and deeper pressure on the contracted areas. Afterwards, the body often feels as if it had a strenuous, yet impactful workout. Because many toxins are released, it’s important to drink plenty of water after a deep session to help eliminate toxins from the body.
Energy Work
Energy work is fundamentally about self-healing. The energy healer is a conduit for Source Energy, that is, what people might call Spirit or the Divine. Various techniques and tools may be used to release energetic blockages, ground and release energy, and to restore healthy balance and flow. The energy healer uses the power of intention, along with their training and experience, to channel energy where it is needed to help the client integrate mind-body-spirit.
Indoor “Open-Air” Massage
We have added an “open-air” room which means there is no ceiling and no door for improved ventilation. Every room at Bodywise has “smart-air” features. However, you must specifically book the “open-air” room ahead of time and it is first come-first served.
Lomi Lomi
Lomi lomi is the word used today to mean “massage therapist” or “Hawaiian massage.” In the Hawaiian language, the word used traditionally, called lomi, means “to knead, to rub, or soothe; to work in and out, as the paws of a contented cat.” It is an ancient Hawaiian healing art utilizing rhythmic movements and long strokes that soothe from light to deep. Enjoy a session to realign the body, improve circulation and induce overall well-being.
Lymphatic Drainage
A lymphatic massage session starts with light massage on the surface of the skin. The therapist gently rubs, strokes, taps or pushes the skin in directions that follow the structure of the lymphatic system so that accumulated lymph fluid can drain through proper channels. Lymphatic drainage is very gentle, is not painful and doesn’t have a stimulating effect. Typical sessions last 60 minutes, and is performed once a day 2-3 times a week for two to four weeks. This modality is excellent post-op for cleansing lymphedema, after breast cancer treatment, and with chronic fatigue symptoms.
Myofascial Release
The Myofascial Release Therapy approach is a form of soft tissue massage used to treat somatic dysfunction and its associated pain and restriction. The treatment uses continual palpatory feedback to achieve release of myofascial tissues (myo – referring to muscle, and fascial – referring to soft connective tissue). This is accomplished by relaxing contracted muscles, increasing circulation and lymphatic drainage, and stimulating the stretch reflex of muscles and overlying fascia.
Neuromuscular Massage
Neuromuscular therapy consists of alternating levels of concentrated pressure on the areas of muscle spasm. The massage therapy pressure is usually applied with the fingers, knuckles, or elbow. Once applied to a muscle spasm, the pressure should not vary for ten to thirty seconds. This technique promotes blood flow and the release of lactic acid.
Outdoor Massage
We welcome you to find a hidden oasis in our newly renovated wellness garden. Enjoy a tranquil setting, a variety of native and exotic plants, semi-private fully-clothed table massage and massage chairs set up to shield you from any harsh weather conditions, and beautiful sounds of playful birds and falling water.
Polarity
Polarity Therapy is the art and science of stimulating and balancing the flow of life energy. The term Polarity relates to one of the fundamental laws of nature, namely the attraction and union of opposites through a balanced middle point. The human body is an energy system like a battery or magnet. It has positive, negative and neutral poles and currents of energy that flow through them. The body work of Polarity Therapy consists of specific manipulations aimed at releasing tension and holding in the physical body and then balancing the life energy. It doesn’t feel like “massage” as the body is not stroked or kneaded.
Pregnancy
Understanding the pelvic girdle, pubis symphasis, and how the hips are effected during gestation are integral to healing pregnancy massage. Sessions are aimed at comfort, nurturance, and support of both baby and mother. Massage for expecting mothers is as old as time.
Reflexology
Reflexology is the application of pressure to areas on the feet, hands and ears. Reflexology is generally relaxing and is an effective way to alleviate stress. The theory behind reflexology is that these areas correspond to organs and systems of the body. The pressure applied to these areas affects the organs and benefits the person’s health.
Reiki
For reiki, no articles of clothing are removed; loose, comfortable clothing is suggested. A session can either be hands-on, where a Practitioner will apply a light touch during the session, or hands-off where they will hold their hands slightly above your body. The session will then proceed with the Reiki Practitioner moving through specific standard Reiki hand positions beginning at the person’s head or feet. A recipient of Reiki might feel a warming sensation or a tingling during the session or nothing at all but sheer relaxation. The session should be very pleasant, relaxing and invigorating.
See our website for additional massage modalties and to meet our massage practitioners.
Self-Care + Community Action
Our newest line of self-care tools have been carefully curated to suit your modern needs. Human bodies have always been made up of the same parts, but we are greater than the sum of these parts. And in this vein, you know that each part of your body is connected not only to other parts but to your environments, emotions, relationships, and soul-connections.
Sports Therapy Massage
This is an ideal modality for athletes and weekend warriors alike. Including rocking/shaking, range of motion stretches, active release, and a more fast-paced tempo, comprehensive, sports massage is so powerful because we can identify trouble spots—adhesions, ischemia, hypertonicity and spasm—and restore tissue before these conditions become injurious.
Swedish Massage
Swedish/Relaxation features gliding strokes with the palms, thumbs and/or fingertips combined with gentle kneading movements with hands. Relax the mind while improving circulation for the entire body. This gentle session feels good and is suggested as part of a regular program for stress management.
Table Shiatsu
This slow, rhythmic compressive style of massage will engage the parasympathetic nervous system, relaxing the nervous system, while simultaneously opening Meridian blockages and revitalizing Chi flow. Based on TCM and the 12 Meridians, Shiatsu aims to unblock channels that may be restricted. Clothing is optional with this modality – often you’ll be asked to stay dressed if you have soft, comfortable clothing on.
Table Thai
The hallmarks of Thai massage, including table Thai massage, include: the use of momentum and gravity rather than muscular strength; work along energy lines called sen lines; rocking; and range-of-motion assisted stretching. Also, the shifting of the practitioner’s body is what impacts the session – utilizing tools that have common roots in Ayurvedic and Yogic Indian traditions.
Trigger Point Massage
A trigger point is a tight area within muscle tissue that causes pain in other parts of the body. They are described as hyper irritable spots in skeletal muscle that are associated with palpable nodules in taut bands of muscle fibers. Trigger point therapy uses a cycle of compression and release targeted toward these sensitive spots to release the pain and tension associated with it. Deep breathing and active range of motion stretches are often integrated into this therapy as well.
Tui Na
A Tui Na session may seem like a cross between the Shiatsu and Acupressure. Like Shiatsu, Tui Na uses rhythmic compression along energy channels of the body, as well as a variety of techniques that manipulate and lubricate the joints. Like acupressure, Tui Na directly affects the flow of energy by holding and pressing the body at acupressure points. This style most resembles Western approaches because of the percussive movements and long strokes.

I came in to see Bee. I had some pain in my back left leg and foot. I told her about it, she listened intently and started my massage working on the effected areas. She gave me tips on stretching and body movement. I felt increasingly better over the course of the day and even better the next morning. I was able to take a walk this morning with only slight soreness left in my foot, which is fading. Bee is a real pro and provides excellent service. Many thanks to Bee.

Tobi works magic when you are injured – massaging to alleviate the pain, and giving you tips to continue healing at home. She was so kind to fit me in on a busy day when I was in need of help, and I am sincerely grateful! I will be back soon injured or not, to enjoy her expert massages.

Tucked away in a small corner on 4th Street, Bodywise Massage is a hidden gem. I had a session with Sasha yesterday which was amazing. I left feeling lighter, more nimble and relaxed. Sasha is an excellent, experienced and intuitive massage therapist. He really knows his way around the body and how to release accumulated tension. He is worth his weight in gold! I will definitely be returning asap. See you soon, Sasha!

Sasha was fantastic and I’m looking forward to setting up another session soon! The difference between massages I’ve had in the past compared to one with a practitioner who clearly knows what they’re doing is astounding. Thanks again for all the help!

Positive: Communication, Professionalism, QualityI have had nothing but wonderful experiences at Bodywise and cannot recommend it highly enough to anyone looking for an amazing massage by talented therapists. I have worked with Aaron a number of times in recent months and he is incredibly intuitive and skilled. If desired, he has recommended exercises and stretches after the sessions to help build on the work he does on the table, all of which are, of course, incredibly helpful. Why pay spa prices when you can get a significantly better massage from highly trained professionals while also supporting an independent business in our area? You shouldn’t, that’s why. I’ve been a client at Bodywise off and on for the last several years as I’ve worked through various sports injuries and other life “ailments.” During this time, I have had the unbelievable pleasure of trying out numerous practitioners at Bodywise for different reasons — I have literally never had a bad experience (this includes Lorraine, Louis, Hilary, Sasha, Catherine, Bee, Lowell, Stacy and Joy)! Each therapist brings his or her own unique skills and energy to the table, and the owner, Tobi, actively ensures her therapists are all evolving in their skills by providing continuing education for them with some of the best teachers around. If you need a transformative massage and don’t want to pay ridiculous prices, this is your place. You won’t be disappointed.

Positive: Communication, Professionalism, Quality”Wise” is the right word choice. I just finished my first massage with Tobi and 5 minutes in it felt that she had known my body for years. She was not following a sequence, but rather feeling what my body needed. I’m a preschool teacher and bending over at work takes a tole on my back. I also had ACL surgery 2 years ago. Tobi really took the time to work these areas and it feels! While walking to my car I noticed how much more aligned I felt. I’m walking straighter, both in my hips and my posture. HIGHLY RECOMMEND, worth every penny!”Wise” is the right word choice. I just finished my first massage with Tobi and 5 minutes in it felt that she had known my body for years. I do a lot of silly things, most of which have the tendency to destroy my shoulders and neck, so it’s always reassuring to know that Tobi and her team have my back– literally!
