I do not normally write reviews, however, our experience at Bobby Dee’s was so surprising that I feel as if I have no choice but to say something. Unfortunately, I was so shocked at the attitude that we received and tried so hard to keep my cool when we arrived at our appointment yesterday morning to have my 7 year old daughter’s hair done for her First Holy Communion that I didn’t even get our stylist’s name… I assume that she was a stylist, yet, I am not 100% sure based on the service and response that we received. The only description that I have is that she has very short, reddish colored hair. Bobby Dee’s was recommended to us by a friend who frequents the salon as my usual salon is closed on Sundays. When we first made the appointment, I assumed my daughter would likely want a half up/half down style. However, she found a photo online of a bun with a braid around it that she preferred. I didn’t think much about her change of mind as I have frequented many salons in my 36 years and they’ve never had an issue working off of photos of any style, hair color, etc, and have always been professional. If something was too far fetched or not practical for whatever reason, they always have other suggestions or work-arounds to get you as close to what you want as possible and always have the skills to create something beautiful. When we mentioned the bun to our stylist, the attitude that we immediately received was atrocious and embarrassing. Her body language, the tone she used with us, everything was filled with annoyance and anxiety. Sighing, rolling her eyes, huffing and puffing as if we were causing a huge inconvenience and every response was, “I don’t know if I can do that.” We were told the stylist that was supposed to do my daughter’s hair, “up and quit on them,” and all she knew how to do was half up and half down. You’re a stylist and that’s all you know how to do? And if you aren’t a stylist, why weren’t we notified if the person that was assigned to our appointment was no longer there or told that you were shorthanded? We were then told that she needed a certain bun holder if that is what we wanted but she “didn’t have hers with her.” The other customer in the salon was trying to help and suggested that Walgreens may have what we needed. I had to leave the salon and go searching at two stores for this piece that no one had. When I got back empty handed and told my daughter we might have to go with the style she really did not want just to ensure she had something done for her communion (she was silent the entire time, made nervous by the tension and the cold demeanor she was seeing) she offered to continue, “trying her best,” to get the bun to work without it. The first attempt was extremely messy and I told her so. The second attempt was enough to make my daughter say that it was “fine” as it more closely resembled a bun and honestly I think she just wanted to be done as well. However, I felt that I could’ve achieved the same result myself at home which defeats the purpose of going to a professional. As she was working, the phone was ringing. She sighed loudly, said, “SERIOUSLY?!” and stomped away from my daughter’s chair to answer it. Comments were made about other co-workers who were not present in front of myself and their other customers. I absolutely understand that in any business there are situations that arise that are stressful and unexpected. But, as someone who has worked in customer service for most of my career, it was always ingrained in me to be professional, never air grievances in front of customers and never let them see you sweat. Always have them leaving feeling better than when they came in. It took everything my daughter and I had to not get visibly upset, angry or break down crying from the stress that was unnecessarily caused by the attitude we were treated with on what was, thankfully, a very special day regardless. But it was absolutely not the experience we expected to have the morning of her communion and is not a moment with her that I can ever get back. We will not be returning.
