Cynthia took me as a walk in and everyone else there were so friendly and welcoming. This must have been the best experience I’ve ever had getting a haircut. I never really knew the difference between a barber shop and a hair salon. They are experts with men’s hair and it shows. I stepped out of there feeling like a new man. Thank you Cynthia and everyone else. You can look at what the other gentlemen are doing with their clients’ hair. In fact, that’s how I was able to make a decision about how I wanted my hair to look. If you’re in Jersey City you need to check this place out. They will make you look great.

Rolled the dice trying to find a new barber shop and got the best haircut I’ve had in the last 6 years. Cynthia was excellent and did a perfect job fading my hair and did wonders with scissors. She was able to correct the cut for the style I was going for and pointed out the issues with what previous barbers were doing. She was very professional and really knows her stuff. The shop itself has a great atmosphere and I’ll definitely be back soon.

Been going to Al in Balkan Barber Shop for years now. Now that my two boys got older now we all three come together. Love it. It’s a dad+sons tradition now. Highly recommended. Old school quality and attention to details + modern creativity, flair, and style. Bottom line – Très Chic! All the guys n gals there are great. Lively conversation, everyone at the top of their game. Word of advice – make your appointment in advance – especially with Al. They are a busy locale – must be a good reason for that.

John gives an amazing haircut and I have used him every time I go. Been going here for a year now and my haircuts are always consistent. John has been cutting my hair and gives me the freshest cuts in the area. I love the online system where I just have a recurring appointment every 4 weeks. Simple. I get a phone call form Eric before my appointment to remind me. It’s a great modern system that I prefer to walk-ins because I never have to wait for my seat. The shop runs like clockwork – – it is always clean and I’m never waiting for my chair. And because the appointments are all 30 minutes , I never feel rushed. It’s plenty of time to cut my hair. At other shops that were walk ins I felt like barbers rushed through my cut to get another client in the seat. Well not here. Thanks John for always taking care of me. I’ll see you in another 4 weeks for a fresh cut.

I’ve been to Balkan two times so far, and both were among the best haircuts I’ve ever gotten. I’ve been burned by lackluster chain barbershops in the JC area before, and Balkan has been the perfect antidote in terms of advice, attention to detail, and genuine care. You can tell as soon as you sit down how committed all the barbers are to their craft and to providing their customers with the best possible experience. If you’re near the grove street PATH station and you need a quality haircut, do yourself a favor and check them out—it’ll be worth every penny.
