If you are looking for a place to get your kid’s first haircut – you found it. I came prepared with about 10,000 snacks and every activity I could think of, assuming that this haircut would go sideways quickly. It was the exact opposite. Rod was so patient with our little guy, and made the first haircut memorable for mom and dad. James even cut my husband’s hair at the same time, which made the experience unforgettable.

Positive: Professionalism, Quality, ValueRod was a GOD SEND. I have a 2 year old, autistic son, who has major sensory issues, as well as having very curly biracial hair. We’ve been turned down by numerous hair cutting establishments in the area. When I called we got a next day appointment and was told that my son would leave with a haircut whether it took hours or not. My son was made comfortable, not as if he was a burden. I have never seen someone so professional and understanding. Rod allowed my son to play with toys, combs, and anything else you can think of, pausing when he needed a break until he was ready to continue his cut. His haircut, AMAZING. & for 20$?! I will never go anywhere else, you can’t put a price on good service. If I could give 100 stars I would. So this review was a few years in the making. Why? The last time I went to the shop which was about 4-5 years ago, I had gone under the impression that Rod knew cuts, or at least was familiar with a fade. As it turned out he wasn’t, I had asked for a regular fade nothing special. His reply to my request: that’s reserved more for the young Latino or Urban youth to do. It kind of stuck with me a bit, now I’m sure he meant nothing negative about the comment, and being Latino myself I wasn’t offended (a little confused but not ready to get South Side Chicago on someone). Being from Chicago, most of the barbers I went to know how to fade or at least line you up. They are more attentive to detail and making sure the customer is happy with the cut and not just giving you a rush, few minutes on the chair cut and you’re out the door. I’m sorry if I’m coming off rude but if you’re in a profession that requires you to know a person’s hair, why would you limit yourself to just styling to one style of hair? It is never too late to step out of your shell and try something new. If anyone is willing to correct me if I’m wrong then please do so but to this day I personally am not satisfied with the service I had received.

Stopped by during a road trip to see the new ballpark and the owner was happy to sneak me in between appointments. His shop was a snapshot of a better time. It was a joy to chat with customers and learn about local life AND get a nice trim as well. Highly recommended! Keep your local downtown alive!

Can you get a haircut at other places in the area…yes. Would you pay less at other locations…maybe, doubtful. But at other locations you wouldnt get a haircut from Rod. Rod is a great guy, does a wonderful job with your cut, is one of the most pleasant gentlemen in the entire city, and his shop is just cool to be at. You will feel welcomed and invited when you enter his shop. You might want to plan ahead and schedule your haircut as he can be booked up, but you might be able to just walk in and get a cut, after a short wait. If you’ve never been, give Rod a try at his shop. If you have been here for a haircut, please continue to support Rod and his local business!!!

He is my brother, so am prejudice. Had to post as I am back in Austin, TX & getting the most compliments ever after a haircut. Plus I have numerous clicks. One at back of crown. This is the first time it is not sticking up. It is a couple of weeks but still looks new & hair is lying extremely well. Thanks Brother for a good cut.
