Hello, I would like to say Askia Hair Braiding, in Oak Park, is awesome. The reason I now is because I’ve been getting my hair braid, twisted, basket weaved etc.. since 2004. The owner, is such a nice and friendly person that she feels like family. I remember 1st day I came to the shop, her little boy was there and she was pregnant with her1st daughter and now, her son has graduated from college which shows dedication & loyalty in good quality of work. Askia hair braiding shows consideration and caring to their customers hair needs. They are very professional and I would truly recommend to give them a try and see for yourself.

Askia is one of the best in town. They take less time to braid. Long box braid is less then 6 hours at their place my hair was short when I first started going to them but now it has grow. The braid are painless compared to other places I have been to. I have a good experience every time I Visited. I was just there and my appointment was set for 8 I was running behind and communicated with them that I would be there by 8:30 but due to traffic (considering I live in Cicero) I made it late I get there my daughter is instantly in the chair. The owner proceeds to speak in her native tongue negatively about me. I knew she was talking about me because I’m the only one in the shop getting crochet braids done for my daughter. That was strike one. Her hair was finished and although I did not like the front part of her hair because she added too much extra hair the style looked nothing like the picture I paid for it because my daughter birthday is coming up and this was last minute. And even though her (the owner) attitude was very unprofessional I still tipped the braider in lack of me being late. But I will not be coming back to this shop this the first time in the last two years I have been coming here I felt completely disrespected. I felt she rushed my daughter hair just to get her out the chair. I had to cut some of the crochet braids in the front because she had them crossed and all on top of each other in the front. If I’m spending money with you do the job right! Don’t be disrespectful or speak negatively about people who make sure your business doors stay open.

I made an appointment to get my hair done in twist, around the time the woman doing my hair was close to done(only had 5 or 6 more twists left to do.) she decides to go back in and cut 2 of the twist that were all ready completed for no reason, the twist were a little longer that shoulder length, she cut the the twist so close to my head that I knew she cut my real hair because I knew how long it was before I walked to that braid shop, I also was able to pull the hair that was cut to see that I had been and sure enough it was uneven. After re-twisting the hair the woman started pulling my head she wanted (instead of lowering the chair I was sitting in & or standing up) to finish my hair. She treated me as a customer very badly and charged me almost $200 for the style.

Critical: Punctuality, QualityThe style was nothing like the picture. My picture was small box braids mid way down my back and instead I got fat box braids passed my butt. The braids wasn’t even neat. The bad part was someone else was in there complaining the braids they got was not what they wanted either. This was just not what I expected at all.Follow up to business response,Clearly you’ll don’t remember me because none of the things you said in your response happened. I was offered to cut the braids which I accepted and the style looked good even worst with choppy ends. I also did not leave any tip because the style is not what I wanted. I think you’ll got me confused with another client. I would say you’ll have very nice stylist but need to be upfront if you can’t do the style the client wants. The style was nothing like the picture. My picture was small box braids mid way down my back and instead I got fat box braids passed my butt. The braids wasn’t even neat. The bad part was someone else was in there complaining the braids they got was not what they wanted either. The stylist had to take her braids all down and redo it the same day. I do not like the way they braid hair. I took my daughter to get a braided ponytail and it lasted for about a week. The braids were fuzzy and they didn’t boil the ends. No gel was used to sleek it down…nothing! I took her there again because my other braider canceled on me and I literally had no other choice. She got braids straight back, and same thing! No gel was used throughout the braiding process no dipping the ends and this time after 3 days the braids are starting to look fuzzy. Braids aren’t neat at all. I would probably go there for simple styles but I wouldn’t recommend them for anything special

Real Nice Hair braids they do great work you will not be disappointed. The thing is for me I see people from all over the world have a business they braid hair that’s a good thing. Now the other shop cut your eyebrows with a string . Ok the mom and pop corner stores are all licensed business. We have to work 40 plus hours no license no perks hum where do they do this at. Critical: Cleanliness, Quality, ValueI went to this shop because the shop I normally go to was closed due to flooding. This was the worse experience. I paid 250 for medium box braids. After just a few days my hair was fizzing up and my braids were unraveling. I called to have them fixed, but I was so disappointed in the quality and the amount of money I spent I went to my original shop and had to pay to have my hair fixed. They asked how long have I had the braids and was I tying my hair down. That’s how terrible they looked. Yeah they braid fast, but the quality of the work doesn’t amount to the price i paid. After just a few days my hair was fizzing up and my braids were unraveling. I called to have them fixed, but I was so disappointed in the quality and the amount of money I spent I went to my original shop and had to pay to have my hair fixed. The lady who braided my hair was very nice. The shop didn’t look like much. And with covid going on the only precautions I think they take is wearing masks. I dint see anyone wash their hands. The style I explained over the phone was $40-50, then when I got there it was $70. I got my own hair braided up and the top out for $70 and a neck full of bumps. I begged her not too tight. I couldn’t even lay on my pillow going on 5 days. Plus the braids weren’t even neat the parts and the braids are just ok.
