I am giving this place a 1 star review because I have been coming to this place for almost 3 years without an issue until recently I had a mishap with a shared credit card where a family member saw “Amstel MT” on the billing statement and mistaken it as a fraudulent charge due to the fact I am from PA where no-one knows what “Amstel” is… Anyway it was disputed without my knowledge. Then on 10/14 I went for a haircut at Amstel’s only to be confronted by the manager/owner Rob in a rude/disrespectful way where he felt the need to address the issue in front of his barbers and customers when this could have been handled in a more mature way. I was totally unaware of the dispute and expressed to him that I will look into it myself and pay any incurred losses although no paperwork was shown or provided to me. After getting my haircut, I was preparing to pay for my haircut only to have Rob race to the counter and say “from now on, pay cash.. you’re taking money out of our pockets”. While I understand his frustration with the issue, I did not appreciate being spoke to or treated that way during my visit and I will never EVER step foot in another Amstel’s barbershop. He says “I am taking money out of pockets, well guess what Rob… you’re taking customers out of your barbers chair. Have some care and respect, also learn to be professional when discussing charge issues with someone who is willing to work with you on fixing the issue… because if this happens with someone else, it may end badly for you because of how you approach the issue.

Critical: Professionalism, Quality, ValueStop. Amstel is not a Barber shop. A real barber will listen and understand the customer and cut the hair accordingly. The butchers here only provide one hair chop, AKA the squirrel cut regardless of what you desire . A real barber will use scissors to perform a haircut and not just a buzzer. Anyone can buzz cut hair with ten minutes of training. Also the prices are shameful. I observed a young Dad pay 48 bucks for himself and 2 young boys. Positive: Cleanliness, ProfessionalismI brought my handsome 11 year old son in for a fade, to the Middletown location. Unbelievably, he left there even more handsome! John did an EXCELLENT job on his hair. We are both very happy! Nice clean shop, we didn’t have to wait and John and the other barber working were very nice. This is our new place!

The staff was nice, but I told the guy what to do with my sons hair and he failed. I told him to only trim the top hair and he just kept cutting and cutting almost like he messed up and had to correct it over and over again. My son is so upset. We’ll never go here again. And no this is not the first time I’ve been. I’ve taken my son here in two other occasions with a different barber and was not impressed. I figured since it had been awhile that maybe they got more experienced. I’m sure they’re great for the regular buzz cuts, just not for longer length hair.

Not horrible, but not good either. Been there about 6 times. Seems like every time I go, someone different is working. I’ve had some decent hair cuts and some horrible ones, where my hair is visibly asymmetrical even after corrections. What’s consistent is how little time they spend on my hair – usually about 15 minutes, even after I ask them to make corrections. Not worth $20 + tip for anyone with short hair.
