Very nice experience at the Akela Gardens! The outdoor setting was lovely! The steam room was absolutely fabulous. There were 2 nice saunas and 2 hot tubs as well. The staff was great. Wish they hadn’t been booked up for massages, would love to have had one.

First time at Akela Spa and it was fantastic! The atmosphere was so relaxing and the garden was magnificent. I enjoyed every sauna in that garden and sitting outdoors in the sunshine in March was unreal! The only regret I have is not getting more treatments. I had the most excellent facial, thank you Kayla! If you haven’t been here you should really check it out! I will be back!

I can’t say enough about how helpful Hannah was in assisting me in setting up 12 spa dates for my retreat group. She worked with me to set up appointments for each — and no one was disappointed. The setting was so relaxing — along with being clean and beautiful. The massages received by each of the ladies was just what she wanted and needed.

Positive: Communication, Professionalism, QualityWe had girls weekend and enjoyed the spa together. They were able to coordinate our treatments to fit us in at the same time and did an excellent job transitioning between the treatments. Place was luxurious and very clean. After all of us finished our treatments, we all went out into the garden area and loved the sauna inside the teepee! We loved the entire experience and would definitely return! We had girls weekend and enjoyed the spa together. Really? My wife and I both got a deep tissue massage. Mine was ok (4*), hers was an oil rubdown by an amateur (1*).

Positive: CommunicationI haven’t even been there yet, and I am So excited to go. I have been so stressed out with work and realized that I would lose my PTO if I didn’t take off next week. So short notice, started doing research. I was starting to get very discouraged, but called and left a message, and they called me back within an hour. It is so last minute, and that is NOT usually how I roll, but this is what my soul needs, and sometimes we just need to take the days off! The receptionist was so sweet and personable and we somehow found a time for a facial and a massage next week! On such short notice, I could have cried. <3 Thank you so much for helping me fulfill my very very needed day of relaxation in such short notice! I am so very looking forward to this, you have no idea! Happy Holidays, and THANK YOU! BEST Christmas Present ever!!!I haven't even been there yet, and I am So excited to go. Critical: CommunicationThis review is based on the experience of booking for a group of 4 and not on the actual services. My group booking experience was not an easy or smooth experience. I initially contacted the Spa in November to book several services for 4 people. Per the website on the Group tab I reached out via email to start booking the spa day for myself, sisters, and mom. Email responses were slow, sometimes over a week between response. I ended up reaching out via Facebook because of the slow response time, and possible confusion on what date we were trying to book, our group was flexible on the date as long as we could get get all 3 services. It took over 2 weeks from initial contact to get booked for services 2 months out. A week prior to our appointments I received a voicemail stating that they needed to discuss appointments as they had a staffing issue, one of our services was cancelled because the provider quit and they were the only one on staff that performs the service. Our group agreed to keep the other services so we could still have the Spa day together. I was sent a revised schedule but had our start and finish times all over the place so I asked if there was anything they could do to rearrange times, 3 of the 4 of the people were driving in from over 2 hours away, so it was inconvenient to have their times start and finish over hours apart. I also asked if it would be possible to receive complimentary garden access (something they charge $15 for) because of the inconvenience of the cancelled service and spread out times, but I was never given an answer on that but our services were rescheduled. This time they were even more spread out and not even close to what I had requested for changes, but at this point had become frustrated with the communication so decided I would address in person upon arrival to the spa on the day of our services. On the day of the services I was called with less than an hour to the start of appointments that one of the providers called in sick, affecting 2 out of the 4 in the group, they did say they had someone who could come in later in the afternoon, but once again our start and end times were not lining up and we had made reservations for dinner together that would not have worked with the reschedule of appointments. At this time we were offered the free garden access. As the group organizer and dealing with the slow communication and schedule changes I cancelled my services and the other members of the group went to their appointments since they were already in town and had drove over 2 hours to get there. Overall, if you are trying to book a group experience I would not recommend Akela Spa, they do not seem to be set up to handle it. We would have been better off booking individually and saved the 20% service charge on groups. This review is based on the experience of booking for a group of 4 and not on the actual services. Positive: ProfessionalismWe arrived early for our massages just to see what the Gardens were like. We were pleasantly greeted by a hot tub, then off to the dry and steam saunas, Spent close to 2 hours soaking in the blissful environment. We had a glass of wine and relaxed in the waiting area for our massages. When we arrived at the Massage room we were happily surprised to be sharing the same room for a couples massage. My wife’s therapist was Jodi and mine was April. I can’t speak to Jodi’s massage talents but I think my wife fell asleep. I’m more of a heavy pressure kinda guy and April is one of the most talented therapist I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. She released all the stress in my hip, back, shoulders and neck. April has the most gentle deep tissue elbow I have ever encountered. If you are ever in Deadwood SD and in need of stress/pain relief go to the Akela Spa and Ask for April, she is wonderful. We arrived early for our massages just to see what the Gardens were like.
