I suffered a second degree burn and multiple first degree burns as a result of her treatment.Red flag #1: When I called to schedule a consultation, I asked the receptionist, Jennifer, if they used a laser suitable for darker skin tones. Jennifer was not able to answer my question and stated that she would have to check. I had to explain to Jennifer that not all lasers are safe and effective on darker skin tones which is why I was asking. Jennifer stated that she had never heard of that before. How do you work in a medical spa that offers laser hair removal and are unaware of that?? She calls me back the next day and simply says “your good to go”. I asked what type of laser they used and she didn’t know. I told her it was fine, and I would just come in for the consultation. I had already saw it on their website, but hoped it was up to date…Red Flag #2: During the VERY BRIEF “consultation” with Lorena she basically just tells me laser is very effectives and should only take about 6 treatments. She did not go into how it works or the risk factors. I had already done my research but found it odd that she didn’t take the time to thoroughly educate her client. She did make sure to tell me that her machine “REALLY HURTS”, so at least she was honest about that. I asked her if I should shave prior to treatment, as I didn’t touch the hair so she could examine it during the consultation, and she said “no, that’s how I like it”. She applied lidocaine to the area which she barley left on for 2 minutes before beginning treatment. It literally felt like someone taking a lighter to your face while sticking you at the same with a sharp, electric needle. She asks me if it hurts, and I tell her YES, and she says, “Well your not screaming”. Apparently, people scream in her chair during laser treatment. She gets to my upper lip and I can barley tolerate the pain. I’m squirming in the chair in tears and she’s laughing! After the torcher session, she walks me to the front, and tells me I may develop a burn but just put some Neosporin and it’ll heal.My face is still burning on the ride home, and after a few hours I notice one side of me chin is super swollen, and my skin is weeping yellow fluid. I called the office and Lorena asks me to send a pic. I get a call 20 minutes later from Jennifer, and she says “You have a burn just keep applying Neosporin”. Three days later Lorena responds to my text and says “Yeah. I’m sorry. There was a lot of long hair. It created a burn. Keep applying ointment.” Mind you, I asked had asked Lorena if I should shave the hair down prior to her staring treatment, and she told me “no, that’s how I like it”. So either you knew you would “create a burn” and didn’t care, or you’re completely incompetent. I’m praying I don’t have permanent scarring or hyperpigmentation from the second degree burn.
