Been a loyal VIP member for 6+ years. Terrible with processing billing subscription dues. Claim there is an issue with running auto payment just to prevent subscription benefits. On going issue for years over the summer months.

Critical: ProfessionalismI have never felt more pressure to sign up for a membership in my life. For my first visit I wanted to try a drop-in tan, willing to pay full price for the service. Let me start by saying I ignored red flag #1 right when I walked in. A customer ahead of me was being pressured into buying a tanning lotion. “Did you come and buy the lotion I set aside for you?” “oh no I have another lotion I want to finish first” “Well you should just buy this one now theres a sale” “Maybe next time…” “Come in next week when im here and buy it” COME ON, I should have just walked out.It was now my turn and I had told the girl I wanted to do a one time tan for now since I live far away and I wanted to make sure this is where I wanted to commute to. She told me that I had to sign up for a membership because they don’t “really do” drop in tans… she then told me the membership she reccomended for me was $99 a month. I told her absolutely not. A line was now forming behind me as I was trying to comprehend the membership options. I told her id want to do the cheapest option because again, I was just trying out to see if this was a good option for me since I live over 30 min away. she told me if i wanted to, I can cancel at any time before the 25th since that is when the billing cycle starts. Great, I move forward and sign for the transaction and another wavier saying I understand the risks of tanning. I then tell her Im wanting to tan and she tells me she would never recommend tanning levels 1 or 2… well guess what… my membership only covers level 1 and she then tells me I have to pay the difference to do a level 3 bed. I was reluctant but she was saying that level 1 and 2 will burn my skin and doesn’t recommend it. So I pay the difference for the upgrade. I felt scammed and my whole drive home I was regretting saying yes to anything that girl told me.Fast forward about a week and a half… I have since found a closer tanning salon to me with better options that fit my needs. I go to $5 tan to cancel my membership (before the 25th of the month and you have to do it in person) I talk to the girl at the front desk (different than the first time) I tell her I wanted to cancel my membership as well as tan since I was there. She pulled my record and told me that she couldn’t cancel my membership since 1 auto billing cycle needed to be processed before I cancel. Even more regret filled inside me since the girl from the first time did not tell me that. She noticed my frustration at the situation and I explained my experience from last time. She told me the only way to cancel would be to email customer service…I emailed customer service wanting to cancel and received a phone call. This girl on the phone told me she couldn’t cancel because I signed a contract. *eyeroll* yeah Im aware, but I did not get to physically read the contract and the girl that signed me up misinformed me of how this membership worked…. I explained that to her on the phone and she said my only option would be to terminate my membership and that im NEVER ALLOWED BACK. Jesus. I told her I was okay with the termination since I wanted to cancel anyways. She then told me she would have to review the cameras to check and see if the interaction took place as I was describing. PLEASE do that, i was made to feel as though I was a liar. after all of that she told me she would add on a $10 tanning credit to my account….. um I thought I wasn’t allowed back? anyways I give this a 2 star review only because the 2nd front desk girl was a peach. also… nothing at this place is $5.Service: TanningI have never felt more pressure to sign up for a membership in my life. I’ve been going to this tanning salon for a littlw over 6 months now and haven’t ever had a negative experience. The staff have always been very friendly and helpful. I love the option to schedule appointments online. The beds I go in (levels 5’s) have always been very clean and I’ve never had any skin irritations or anything happen. In the past I have had skin problems from tanning beds because of the cleaner or possibly no cleaner so it was important to me that I go to a place now that I trust. Its been great so far! I love having my 12-15 minutes in the sun every week.

$5 Tan in Shakopee is a fairly standard tanning salon. It’s always clean, has friendly staff, and I’ve never had a problem getting in. The salon space itself not overly luxurious or spa-like compared to some I’ve visited, but I have no complaints. I’ve been going here occasionally as a intermittent winter tanner for a couple years. I appreciate that the staff aren’t pushy or constantly trying to upsell you an expensive lotion or different tanning package.

Good service and clean facilities, but I don’t think I’ve ever been more pressured to buy things/pay extra for upgrades that I don’t want than I was here. The gal basically refused to sell me the level 2 bed package because that’s what I did last time I was at $5 tan (2-3 years ago), and if I want to see a change in color, I have to increase the level. She tried so hard to convince me to buy the level 4 package, but I was eventually able to convince her to let me do the level 3. The lady then proceeds to tell me “you don’t look very happy” as she swipes my credit card. If you don’t think your customer is happy, you should probably do something about it.

Beds not working, closing times are wrong and they always are closed earlier than what they say, also had issues with computers the other day . Just don’t like this 5 dollar tan others are better

I have gone to this location for years even before it was 5 dollar tan. They have a wide variety of tanning beds and spray tan. They also offer red light therapy and teeth whitening. They sell a huge line of tanning products. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable. They are great answering any tanning questions.
