I was so excited to finally find a stylist near enough to my home, not only willing to do this type of cut, but to specialize in it. I was also very nervous because I wanted a drastic length change and this has gone very badly for me in the past. A DevaCut requires cutting each curl one by one while the hair is dry. That’s the only way to do it. Therefore, there are specific instructions to follow prior to your appointment. Follow those instructions as best you can!When I arrived, my hair looked like it does in the first photo. After talking about what I wanted, and showing Marie some photos on my phone, she started cutting my hair. Just the way it is pictured – dry cut, curl by curl, the way it is recommended in the book I read over 15 years ago. Marie gave me a mirror several time through the process to show me what my hair looked like during the cut. I have NEVER had a stylist let me see my hair while a cut was in progress. It was great and really put me at ease because my hair was dry and I could see the actual length of the cut. When the initial cut was complete, Marie did a cleanse and deep condition, then I went under the dryer for a bit. I also paid extra for some advice on styling my hair on my own. Marie does use Deva products, which I have tried in the past, but did not like. I told Marie this and she said, “That’s fine! I’m going to use Deva products on you today and explain how and why I use each. But you can use the same process with your products at home. I can’t say they will work exactly the same, because I know how the Deva product line works, and yours may work differently.” Fair enough. I felt in no way pressured to purchase products (and I didn’t).After my hair was mostly dry, I got back in the chair. Marie gave me lots of curly styling advice, applied product, and “checked the cut”. She did need to cut a few more ‘unruly strays’ but for the most part, I was done. It took 2.5 hours for all this. That time, advice, and individual attention was worth what I paid. Oh- and worth not being a lump of tears and regret – Let’s not forget that.After reading some reviews, I was worried that Marie would be some burned-out, cranky, stylist that would make me feel bad about the way I was caring for my hair or pressure me into purchasing products. This was simply not the case. Marie was friendly, open to my opinions, asked me questions then listened to me when I answered. She seems to absolutely love giving people great curly hair. She has strong opinions about curly hair care because she believes in what she is doing. Again, in -NO WAY- pressured me to purchase products.I attached pictures of the back and side of my hair. The first is how I went into the salon prepared as best I could for the DevaCut. The other two are after – sorry none of the front… I didn’t want to post my face.Thank you Marie!!
