A great professional and friendly atmosphere. The stylists are warm and always make every effort to satisfy customers. Ilene is very skilled in her field and I admire that she is always seeking to new knowledge and getting trained, using effective methods for hair loss etc. I can’t say enough about this business but just go and experience it for yourself. They are truly like family.

I have been to several locticians and Expressions is top-notch. This salon is comfortable and the ambience is great. I have sisterlocks and I never fail to get compliments from others. Ilene is great with repairing locs and contrary to other reviews, the prices are great compared to others I have been charged. Give them a try and you won’t be disappointed.

I was searching for a salon to have my sister locs retighten. I was referred to Expression Hair Design. The treatment I receive there from Ilene the owner was unprofessional. I left the salon feeling like I was taken advantaged of .The salon was overbooked and I was overcharged for the services. Ilene would not honor the price she quoted when I made the appointment. I was not told about additional fees for common services. I believe I was charged more because I was new to the salon. Gouging of prices is not a good business practice. I was quoted a price of $110.00 with the washing and conditioning of my sister locs was included. I was actually charge $185.00 with $35.00 of the for washing and conditioning my hair. (I never paid that much in the 6 years I had my sisterlocs). Once my hair was washed and conditioned, I was put under the dryer and for next 2 hours. I sat there while they worked on other clients. Over the next 5 1/2 hours, I had 3 locticians alternate between retightening my locs and continuing to servicing other clients. Included in this rotation was Ilene the owner. It took 7 ½ hours to retightening of my locs. The price I was quoted was not price on the bill. I ask Ilene about this and was told I being charged extra because I have sister locs. In addition, Ilene stated that I did not tell her I have sisterlocs. (She must have forgotten that she worked on my hair). I told her as the shop owner she was obligated to tell me the price of her services before she perform them and that I as the consumer have the right to decide which services I would purchase. She refused to try and resolve this issue and proceeded to overcharge me. I will never go back to this salon. My advice to anyone who is new to the area (like me) and is looking for a salon to get his or her locs cared for, do not to go to Expression Hair Design.

Great enviroment- Very professional- Ilene is truly “The Loc Doctor” I have seen her bring a smile to a womens face when she arrived she was devastated by the lost of her hair. Ilene has years of experience with natural hair and color. I am stopped all the time on the street to ask me where I get my locks done and who does my color…. Ilene at Expression in White Plains. I live in Queens and take mass transit to get there…. You know she has to be good. Smile. One thing, bring your patience, you may have to wait.

I hate to leave a poor review but it is helpful to know what you are getting into. I had an appt scheduled but when I got to the salon on time I was told the wait would be more than 2 hours. They made no attempt to call me to let me know in advance and hardly sympathized when I reminded them that I had traveled from a distance to get to there. I was polite in explaining my frustration but I barely got an apology. They offered nothing as reconciliation for my wasted time and energy. Costumer service is not something a new client will get here.
