To preface this review, I have had my hair cut by every stylist at Edge hair salon. They genuinely have never given me a good haircut. I have wavy hair of medium length and they simply do not know how to cut it or style it. The last time I went, I asked for a simple trim of an inch off. They proceeded to cut off three inches and styled my hair in the goofiest way possible. DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU HAVE WAVY HAIR. If you’re fine with a very basic cut, then sure, this is probably the place for you.

My first visit was a walk in and after waiting a couple minutes I thought I’d made a big mistake. The entire clientele were male college aged Asians…with straight black hair. I have curly grey hair. But the stylist Anna took me before I could escape and assured me she could cut my hair. Though I didn’t believe her she did an incredible job and I’ve been going there since. She cut my hair to bring out its natural curliness. And for less than half the price I’d been paying at fancier establishments!

I went there for the first time today. Asked for a clean and professional trim and they delivered a great full haircut for $25. The woman who cut my hair was very nice and took care of me.

I asked for layers and no follow up questions were asked. Kim used thinning shears from my chin down to create “layers” instead of any external layer cutting technique. Before I came in, I had a lot of thickness in the bottom of my hair and now I have none. Even if my hair was “fine” before she started (as she claimed), why would she use thinning shears all over it? I’m going to have to cut it up to my chin and start over completely growing it out. Exterior layers are different from interior layering or “thinning” and thinning is extremely outdated and a very poor choice for hair with any sort of wave or curl. These people know nothing about cutting long, wavy/frizzier hair and this place should be avoided. I knew I couldn’t argue with them there because I saw how they treated another customer’s complaints next to me. She was also dismissed when she brought up that she didn’t like something.

Sophie is very good at cutting my hair I think. It is not so expensive, and quite nice compared to the price.

I’ve gone to Edge since I was a freshman at UC Berkeley till I graduated. I’ve always had a good experience with my hair cuts. Everyone is friendly and prices are solid. Personally, I get a fade + undercut and it has consistently been what I expect each time.

My wife introduced me to this place, which has now become my go-to. Sophie does great work and is a real treat to talk with. Definitely worth waiting to get on her calendar, is she had always delivered above and beyond. Even though she works more then anyone I know, she seems to book quickly, so plan ahead.

It was my first time here at Berkeley and Kami was assigned to me. Avoid Kami (the old korean lady) at all cost. She was very unpleasant and unprofessional. She basically ignored all my requests and made up excuses to why she can’t do it. She mentioned that my head is too long that it looks like a crayon (i thought it was funny tbh lol), this hairstyle doesn’t fit you, etc etc. Even though the request is fairly simple for even an unexperienced barber, she managed to insult me while she was explaining all the reasons why she couldn’t do it. It was seriously my first time ever where the barber couldn’t get the job done bc my hair is literally so easy to cut that even my mom can cut it. I usually have no problem with anyone cutting my hair, but I’ll be scared to death when Kami gets assigned to me again. I would ask her to pay me to cut my hair when that happens. Anyways, I genuinely believe she is either just lazy or unskilled. Does anyone have a suggestion for a decent barbershop near UC Berkeley? Edge hair, Kami is a terrible place to go.
