Kate is seriously such a wonderful breath of fresh air and I’m so glad I have finally found my go-to stylist after searching for so many years here in RVA. He gave me my favorite haircut ever and I seriously could not recommend them enough. They went above and beyond, from start to finish, to make sure I had a wonderful & affirming experience. I was finally doing a short haircut after having long hair literally my whole life. I was both excited and nervous and he made it an extremely safe and memorable experience. He asked questions and gave suggestions and really made the process a breeze. If I can help it, I will have them cut my hair time and time again whenever I need a new cut. I went in recently for a trim and some light shaping plus a beard trim. I have curly hair (like 3A/3B) and have only let my mom cut my hair for years because it’s hard to find people who know how to handle it. Kate cut it dry and really meticulously went curl by curl. They did a great job evening out a not-great home cut I did myself without sacrificing too much length which is exactly what I asked for. They also showed me some facial markers it’s traditional to shave your beard along while being really explicit that a lot of hair theory is based on gendered convention and that the best thing to do is what made me feel good. Clearly has a strong background in technique and a focus on the individualized needs of queer folks. Would recommend.
