Excellent cut and wonderful experience. My hair is thick and straight and not all forgiving if the hairdresser does not know how to cut it. Very relaxing experience topped with a good coffee. I only hope that with time this nice place will become a full spa where one can go and get facial, massage in addition to the haircut.

Very professional. Pam was my stylist she took me in at my app. time I didn’t have to wait. My hair was very damaged from another salon I had been going to in which I would spend up to 5hr there waiting to get my hair done and the stylist was always late. Pam saw the problem right away and started treating my hair so it could become healthy again. Shelton’s Salon is very clean, the staff is very friendly, and they book their app. accordingly so that there clients feel safe and are not sitting on top of one another. And they have a parking lot which is an added bonus. Thank you Pam for a great job!

The family owned place gave me what is probably the best haircut I have ever had. I went from a long unkempt pandemic ponytail to a fresh style. You can tell hair is a passion here. New to the neighborhood but stopped in to this local salon without realizing it had a long established history in the dc area. The family owned place gave me what is probably the best haircut I have ever had. I went from a long unkempt pandemic ponytail to a fresh style. You can tell hair is a passion here. I will definitely be recommending to neighbors and friends.

We were referred to Shelton’s Salon & Spa by angels disguised as traffic…really. While waiting for a car ahead of me to make a turn, I looked to my left and saw their sign. I was startled by the name match, but I then made a turn onto their parking lot (YES, free parking!!) and I’m so thankful that I did! The clients leaving had the best styles on the healthiest hair as evidence of their work.

Critical: QualityI have seen beautifully cut hairstyles on so many women done by Shelton – NOT MINEI My hair had more dips than Shenandoah Park and was as asymmetrical as a Picasso painting. Going through COVID with a sad, sad hair cut makes you remember there are so many things to be grateful for even if a cute haircut is not on the current list.

This is my first time leaving a review for anything and I wish it could be a better one! I had my first appointment last December with Lisa at Shelton’s and she was an hour late, but I know DC traffic is rough and she did a wonderful job with my hair and I was really happy with the quality of the service. So I decided to try them again. I made an appointment last week and today when I showed up the woman at the front desk said Lisa wasn’t there yet. After waiting 15min I prompted “So do you know when she might be arriving?” And the response was “No. I’m not sure if she knows she has a client today. Hopefully she looked in the book”. There was no follow-up or reassurance. So another 5min pass and I ask “Do you have a way to contact her to know if she’s coming?” and the answer was “No. I don’t have her number.” So I wait a few more minutes and ask “Well, is there a way you could get her number?”. So the woman at the front makes some calls and finally reaches Lisa, who apparently doesn’t pick up. So at this point I’ve been waiting for 30min with no reassurance or apologies. The woman at the front offered that someone “might be coming at at 3 who could do your hair”. My appointment was for 12. So at 12:45 I left. I told the woman at the front desk that I couldn’t wait any longer and kindly voiced my annoyance and she didn’t even offer an apology, she just said “I don’t run the place, so it’s not my fault.” It was ridiculous that they did not have a way to contact one of their stylists when she was running late and super unprofessional and frustrating that she didn’t bother showing up or notifying anyone that she would be late. I’m generally an understanding person and brushed off my appointment being an hour late last time, but this was just so annoying. I’ve never had such poor service. I will not be returning. Again, it was nothing about the quality, she really did a wonderful job and was very warm and kind in person, which is why I was excited to return, but if she can’t show up on time or show up at all, I can’t be a client.

One sure sign of a great haircut is how it looks more than a few weeks afterward. Travel prevented my return sooner, and 10 weeks out, my hair still behaves BEAUTIFULLY. Can’t wait to return to this friendly, superb salon.
