Positive: Cleanliness, ProfessionalismI’ve been a solid dark brown/black haired person my whole life. Anytime I’ve attempted to get highlights from other upscale salons I left looking striped/brassy and feeling defeated. These disappointing results were usually achieved within two hours at most but I didn’t realize until I met Jamie at Hudson Grey that for someone like me, someone who has been dying my roots for twenty plus years that the process will take a lot more time to get a great result while maintaining the integrity of my hair. She explained this to me at an appointment I made after my first amazing haircut with her in October. While cutting my hair in her sophisticated, trendy and beautifully appointed two story space right in the center of a town worthy of a day trip, we talked about color and I told her that I wanted something different. I wanted a big change. She told me before she tries to lighten my hair she needed to do a color test where she would lift a small section in the back to make sure she could do it safely without ruining my hair . A few weeks later she spent over an hour with me doing just this. She put one little section in the back in foil with lifting solution (?) and checked it every five minutes. She determined that she could safely lift color from my hair and sent me on my way. The salon did not charge me for this appointment which blew me away. I made an appointment for a month later and was told to expect to be there all day and yesterday was the day. I arrived at 12pm and I didn’t leave the salon until 6:30 pm. Is this because I was left in a corner and forgotten about? Absolutely not. I wasn’t left alone for more than ten minutes at a time the whole time. Jamie applied the lifter and between her and her assistant they constantly checked each individual foil and at times added heat to certain areas, took foils off and continued to ask me if I was comfortable or needed anything. I was served coffee and then Prosecco in the later afternoon. Such a fun touch ! I took in the environment there and it’s a very busy and happy place. The stylists are all so pleasant and talented. It was a joy to watch other people come and go looking beautiful. Finally it was time for Jamie to do her magic -which is the only word I can come up with other than art. After two deep conditioning treatments were applied Jamie applied a golden chocolate brown toner and did something else with a paintbrush. Without getting technical this and the specific way she placed the foils after teasing some hair from each section were to ensure that where my base color ends and my new color began would be undetectable. Finally it was time to get blown out and styled (after another great haircut ). I have never left a salon feeling the way I felt yesterday. I have the hair I have always dreamed about having, admired on other people and never thought it would be possible on me because it was tried with terrible results. Now that I’ve had this experience with Jamie and her lovely assistants I know that nobody who has colored my hair before ever took the time or probably didn’t have the knowledge to do it properly.
