I followed Bryan Howe here because he’s absolutely amazing. He works miracles with my hair. Also the head rubs are drool-inducing. Go to see Bryan! He’s a darling and a wizard. The salon is beautiful, clean, welcoming, and well-appointed. Surprisingly street parking isn’t too bad. Also their prices are competitive for outstanding style and service.

I was recommended by my cousin. I had never colored my hair before so I wanted to make sure that I was going to someone who valued the health of my hair and would be honest about what was realistic. I scheduled a consultation with Jacquelyn to discuss blonde highlights or going red. She was very sweet and gave what seemed like solid advice and we decided on the blonde as we didn’t want the change to be too much and we not be able to tone it down…I scheduled with her that day. When I came back, she was still just as nice. She foiled my hair and the process took about 3 hours. When it was done, she gave me some liquid leave-in conditioner so I could style my own hair before leaving. That was the first red flag. Anyone who is educated on textured hair knows that anything watery is not going to add enough moisture to curly hair. I didn’t want to be rude so I used it and tried to blow dry my hair like I normally would but of course my hair came out flat, dry, and my curls not really defined. At this point I couldn’t really tell what the color looked like. I could def see patches of color but until I could style with my own products, I didn’t want to say yay or nay to it. After wearing it out for a day or two I concluded that the color was beautiful in the front but Veeery blotchy in the back. Literally chunks of my natural dark brown and chunks of just blonde. There was little to no blend in the back. I called her to express my concern and initially, she quoted me another $250 to “add more color”. Not wanting to offend her, I let it go but later decided to take pictures and discuss in person. I specifically said “I love the front but it looks very blotchy to me in the back” She responded “It doesn’t look blotchy to me at all”. I knew then she didn’t understand my texture of hair, what I wanted, or what I was unhappy about. She agreed to another appointment which I later canceled because I was so uncomfortable. I ended spending an additional $300 at another salon (Curls One on One is FABULOUS by the way) for a color correction service that took 6 hours long. I called C Salon to speak to management, not even looking for my money back but to just share my experience. I was told management was unavailable but would call me back. Instead Jacquelyn calls me back! This was awkward and unprofessional to me but I decided to share with her as it was regarding her. I did my absolute best to be respectful and gentle as to not offend her, however she immediately became defensive and nasty with me. She told me my hair was fine and nothing wrong with it and that it was on me that I canceled my return appointment. I then tried to point out that for future reference, if a person with textured hair comes to you and you don’t know what to do with it or the best methods to use with textured hair (Pintura NOT foils), it’s ok to say this is not my expertise. She told me this was my first color experience and that I didn’t know what I was talking about and that just because I spoke to some other hair stylists, didn’t mean anything. I may not know much but I do know her foil method was not the best for me and she should’ve known that well before I figured it out myself. We ended the call on a terrible note. At this point, she had been so nasty, I wanted my money back. I was to the point of tears because it is already a sensitive thing for a woman of color with with textured hair to walk into a salon that supposedly caters to all hair types and the service be so unaccommodating and poor. Story of every curly girl’s life. I did call back to speak to owner and manager but I was told I could not receive a refund because Jacquelyn rents her booth and it would have to be taken up with her. I called yet again, to take this issue of the refund up with her but I was told she was busy and she’d call me back. Never heard from her so I called AGAIN, left a voicemail on the salon’s machine and still no return call. This matter has been going on for 10 days. I will never return to this salon. The owner, manager, and stylist were all extremely disappointing.
